Andrew Pekler
New Environments & Rhythm Studies
New Environments & Rhythm Studies sees Andrew Pekler revisiting the humid, imagined landscapes of past works like 'Sounds From Phantom Islands' and 'Tristes Tropiques.' Across 12 tracks ranging from immersive compositions to brief sonic sketches, he blends synthetic field recordings, undulating textures, percussion and serene melodies to explore the interplay between artificial and natural sounds. With insect recordings triggering lopsided electronic rhythms, as in 'Cumbia Para Los Grillos,' even the most seemingly organic atmospheres are entirely synthetic. As with much of Pekler's work, this album reimagines traditions like exotica and ethnography through a playful and fictional sonic lens.
