Chicago’s master of fleet-hoofed footwork riven with sublime, darkly soulful tension and oddness turns it out on party-turned-label Accidental Meetings.

A pivotal player in the mutant juke sound since chope delivered on Planet µ’s ‘Bangs & Works Vol.2’ set, DJ MC is noted for his wickedly noirish and aerodynamic sound, at best on the likes of 2017’s ‘Mindflow’. UK label Accidental Meetings know this, and wrap up six of his strongest on ‘I’m So Cold’, warming up the tendons with his woozy soul chords and vocals on ‘They say Dey Run The South’, and getting them properly poisoning with the pneumatic pump of ‘You Ain’t Battling’. The blue jazz notes and film dialogue chopped up in ‘If You Want Some Juice’ are a big highlight, next to the deadly sinuous minimalism of ‘I Make Gutta’ and funereal flex of ‘I’m So Cold’, next to the exacting finishing move of drill style minor key motifs and pitchbent weirdness in ‘Out The Grave’. Deadly.
